Listened On Repeat: IFUCKINGLOVEYOU by Big Black Delta

christine_newI fucking love this song.  It has epic choirs, rock and electronic elements that all somehow perfectly compliment each other.  Big Black Delta is not a one trick pony and their sound varies tremendously from song to song.  They pull from a variety of genres and sounds, but what is consistent is the intensity in which they approach every single song.

Big Black Delta is the solo project of Jonathan Bates who is most recognized for being the vocalist and bassist for the band Melowdrome.  I feel like this particular song stands out from their first album because it doesn’t slowly build to it’s most intense and saturated parts, it opens with it.  There’s so few artists I can think of that are brazen enough to do this because where do you go from there.  Bates has a confidence that the rest of the song will keep you around and live up to its opening (which it does).  So many bands try and integrate epic choirs into their music and I find it’s hard to make it work without either being gimmicky or being only about the epicness.

This song seems like a release from a life before one meets someone that they truly love.  This is no mere love ballad however.  It’s like it embodies the high that one gets after life changing positive news.  I have mentioned previously that I must have listened to a song on repeat to have it qualify for this column, but another aspect of it that I didn’t realize till I started writing is that I also end up listening to the songs on repeat while writing.  I recently received some very good career related news and now listening to IFUCKINGLOVEYOU on repeat is actually making me feel that euphoria a bit longer.  I had written a rough draft for this song a few months ago, but now it is too perfect not to post.

Lyrics in case you’re interested:

Every round she sings
Waiting inside for more
Every rising sun
Has a right to go down

Holding on

Every honey bee
Gets some peace of mind
Every lovely guest
Gets a glass of fine wine
So make some little babies

Holding on

Love, love
Love love love love love
I do love
Love, love
I fucking love you, I fucking love you
I do

I won’t forewarn anyone
A few more till the world is ready
It won’t be sick anymore
As long as that’s what keeps you happy

Holding on

Love, love
Love love love love love
I do love
Love, love
I fucking love you, I fucking love you
I do
